Brief Info: A superb three record anthology covering all the Led Zeppelin albums. The choice of songs to include is first class, and most fans will know them all. The sound is simply magnificent, the remastering is sublime. Including a fantastic glossy double gatefold cover in beautiful condition and three black inner sleeves, all unsplit, put simply, this lavish triple album could almost pass for new.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): just a tiny tip crease stops a near mint grading. A double gatefold format with all surfaces deeply glossy and looking fantastic. This has the embossed ‘W’ Warner logo on the back. Printed and made in Germany, includes the three black inner sleeves.

Cover – The Main Six Faces: All hugely impressive with deep shine retained to all. A small light tip crease as mentioned, little else to fault with no fading or ageing, this superbly preserved cover will prove immensely difficult to find better.

Top & Bottom Edges: All immaculate, flat and parallel, this is perfectly folded so all edges are flush and straight.

Right Edges: One opening for record storage, this one the front, both edges crisp and very sharp. The back edge is wide and closed, this has lovely shape and uncrushed or compressed with no surface wear.

The Spine: Very wide and again immaculate. A mint black spine with no rubbing, crushing or compression. The large text is totally perfect as seen, also superbly centred for maximum good looks. Both folds unworn or scruffed, even the ends are as issued.

Corners: All corners retain superb shape with just the fine and small crease to the front top right tip as mentioned already. Barely a trace of rubbing to be seen.

Cover Summary: Not one seen often, and rarely will a better example be seen or offered. A really lovely item for collectors, and although many may own the songs already, these remastered versions are more than worthy of investigation. This is a quality item.

The Inner Sleeves: All three EXCELLENT(++): all are soft-lined with only a little gentle natural crinkle, probably present from day one. No hard creases and all edges unsplit with no repairs. All have avoided ring wear or any blemishes of any note at all.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: NEAR MINT: with just side three with a light dulling near the rim that does absolutely nothing. All six sides very clean with superb shine and freshness, this set without doubt hardly played. Six gorgeous labels and sound quality is immense. Any surface marks are conspicuous by their absence, even as seen under bright light. Beautifully pressed in Germany for the European market and barely run-in in vinyl terms. These records should again please most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: All three records play superbly well and even exceed their visual grading with barely anything to fault. Powerful, distortion-free sound with amazing sonic delivery of the music. Heavy rock albums always sound better via vinyl with the depth, power and full dynamic range it offers. The remastering done with utmost skill to the highest quality by George Marino and Jimmy Page. Any surface sound barely even registered and there are no pressing problems, unwanted noises or tracking issues*. All frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is fantastic with a wide dynamic range, ultimate fine detail and delivery. This was a joy to play-grade. Few available copies, no matter where they are pressed will match or better little used set. With great sound and a lovely clean cover and contents, this classic Led Zeppelin double set should please many, if not most collectors and is strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
