Description: Holy Grail time!! One of the elite LPs for crate-diggers at the moment. Yet to be subjected to a shoddy reissue, so you know it ain’t easy to get hold of this! Mad, Canadian soundtrack to a ballet (stay with me!), this packs heat like Chow Yun Fat in Hard Boiled. There’s three exceptional breaks on this fella, first up is ‘Scene des Guerriers’ which opens up with huge drums on a slow and low angle, leading into a cool piano vamp – kinda reminiscent of Marc Moulin’s ‘Tohu Bohu’. Then there’s the mad ‘Les Passants du Soir’ which is, contrastingly, an up-tempo affair, but again H-U-G-E drums, punctuated by a cheeky wah-wah riff. Hidden on ‘Jalousie’ is a cheeky couple of bars of drums which in my opinion are harder than those on the infamous two tracks just described, amazingly they’re almost throwaway and if you’re not paying attention, you miss out on the toughest beat on the LP. And if that wasn’t quite enough for you, there’s the title track which, though not having a ‘break’ has hard drums throughout the tune which is a nice groover. Crazy LP and for once totally justifies the hype.
