REVIEW: Country and pop iconoclast Lee Hazlewood was one of the music world's most irascible geniuses during a long, fruitful career. An Oklahoma Dust Bowl refugee who grew up to become a dedicated Europhile; a production heavyweight who authored success stories for Duane Eddy and Nancy Sinatra but also a recording eccentric who refused to acknowledge mainstream tastes; a songwriter capable of crippling fatalism ("My Autumn's Done Come") and playful country corn ("Dolly Parton's Guitar"), and songs that use elements of both ("Dark in My Heart"); it's all part of the highly contradictory legend of Hazlewood.-Allmusic.com

NOTE: All of Hazlewood's LPs are collectible, but after he left Reprise and started his own imprint LHI, his albums were much more popular overseas than they were in the US. Therefore, these later LHI albums are much harder to find than his earlier Reprise efforts.

RARE ORIGINAL U.S. STEREO FIRST PRESSING WITH ORANGE LHI LABELS, "-1A" MATRIX NUMBERS, AND UNIPAK FOLDOUT COVER WITH SONG TITLE STICKER. VINYL IN STUNNING SHAPE.

The FIRST PRESSING of an LP is the first edition made by the pressing plant, and usually can be counted upon to have the highest fidelity of any commercial release of the LP. This is due to the fact that the stampers used to press the LP are in the best conditon with the earliest pressings, with each subsequent pressing being a bit less perfect than the previous. The FIRST PRESSING will also feature the original label design, congruent with the original year of the LP's release. Also, the FIRST PRESSING will sometimes contain extra features, such as custom sleeves, covers, or inserts, that are often cut from subsequent reissue pressings. For these reasons, the FIRST PRESSING is much more sought after within the record collecting community than reissued pressings.

The UNIPAK gatefold cover was a popular packaging option during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The main feature of this cover design is that the LP slides out from the SPINE side of the jacket, instead of the outside edge. The listener must open the gatefold all the way in order to remove the LP. This prevented accidental 'fall out' and posibble damage as LP met floor. However, some consumers lacked the patience to remove the LP properly, and therefore the gatefolds often are found with the seams ripped, as people forced the LP out without opening the UNIPAK all the way, or by opening it too far. Probably due to complaints about this, the design was abandoned after a few years.
