DARLING TAKE ME BACK
Lenny Welch might have come from Asbury Park, New Jersey, but he's nothing like Bruce Springsteen. He actually has depth as a performer, and knows when his career is over. His career, was going great in the 1960s, when he was the big thing over at Cadence Records. He was rather like a mix of Roy Hamilton and Andy Williams and specialized in the big soulish ballads that were geared to make girls swoon. His version of "Since I Fell For You" was a chart topper in 1963 and when things went soft at Cadence he moved over to Kapp Records.
This one finds him there in 1965 and is one of the several cool soul ballads from their vaults. While this single never was a hit at the time, northern soul fans sure have latched onto it. The topside is "Darling Take Me Back" and is well worth checking out. This one's flipped with "Time After Time."
