Description

Leo Sirota ( born in Kamianets-Podilsky, Russian Empire, now  Ukraine, May 4, 1885 - died in New York, February 1965 ) began studying piano at the age of five, attended the conservatories in Kiev and, later, Saint Petersburg. In 1904 he went to Vienna to study with Ferrucio Busoni. Debut 1910 with a concert together with Busoni ( Mozart, Sonata for two pianos and as soloist the Liszt Don Juan Fantasy ). 1920 worked as rehearsal pianist with the conductor Jascha Horenstein and 1921 with Serge Koussevitzky in Berlin. After toured in Europe: Paris, London, Budapest, Lisbon, Madrid. Sirota settled in Japan in 1929, staying there for 15 years, teaching and giving recitals. After the Second World War he moved to America and taugth in St.Louis.

10" electric Japan.Columbia J 5133: K. Yamada, Karatachi No Hana / Sie und Er, No 2, Allegro vivace and No 5, Lento misteriosamente. Matrices NE 32773 and 32774. Recorded in Japan c.1930. Condition: 2-3, very few sligth scratches, no greying. A rarity in Europe and the States !

1 = mint, never played on gramophone, is not used

1-2 = top copy, no traces of use - virtually as new

2 = excellent copy, few light non-sounding rubs/marks

2-3 = light traces of wear (rubs/marks), very light greying and/or light scratches, non sounding blemishes

3 = a good average copy with more noticeable rubs and marks; light greying, few light scratches possible

3-4 = more traces of use, sonic wear from light greying. An inferior average copy, light scratches possible

4 = some sounding wear, heavier rubs and marks, scratches possible

5 = obvious sounding wear, heavy rubs, marks, scratches. An unsatisfactory copy.
