Description
Rare historical 10-inch shellac record: COUNT LEO TOLSTOY - with his ETCHED AUTOGRAPH in the large run-off area of the A-side; featuring his voice on the track called "THOUGHTS FROM THE BOOK "FOR EVERY DAY"" - Special Record, Gramophone E 158, made in England, manufactured for Victor. The labels are odd, with the top half cut and pasted over the bottom half on both sides (does that mean it's a file copy?); but I believe the original label underneath would say "His Master's Voice" along the top and would have a large color illustration of Nipper the dog. The flip side is "A Speech on Education" by H.E. The CARDINAL ARCHBISHOP OF WESTMINSTER. Not sure of the date, but circa the 1900's-1910's.
Condition EX (groove areas are EX, runoffs have some scuffing, labels look a little sloppy because of the odd pasting).

A NOTE ON SHIPPING SHELLAC RECORDS: I use the floating method, with the record sandwiched between strong pieces of cardboard with corrugate in opposite directions, then placed inside a larger sturdy box with packing material all around inside to prevent any movement (either peanuts, large-bubble wrap, or crumpled paper). Sometimes if I have old 10" LP jackets I don't need, I will put your record in it before sandwiching; otherwise will be in a paper sleeve. I will also always insure these with the USPS. Due to the extra time, materials, insurance, and overall high level of stress associated with shipping these safely (YOU know!), I am asking $6.00 for Media Mail shipping ($4 is actual shipping cost). I think it is reasonable, and I get the feeling that most collectors who buy these online are happy to pay a little extra for the added assurance.
