Leonard Cohen : Songs Of Love And Hate A3 / B3 1971 CBS Records
This classic album plays with stunning clarity and depth on both sides with barely any background. It's remarkable how well this vinyl has been preserved and the audio quality certainly reflects that. Featuring a number of classics nothing grades lower than Near Mint and I cannot stress enough just how clean and precise the audio is. 'Famous Blue Raincoat' is stunning! This album is from the same collection I purchased recently and the previous owner looked after his records so well as he was keen to tell me!
The cover is in excellent shape with only very minimal wear and for once it includes the original small booklet. The original CBS inner is also in excellent condition.
From looking at the labels I believe this to be a very early second or third press from 1971.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with no obvious marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can see one very small faint mark on S1 but it no affect on the audio. Aside from that I can only find a handful of ultra faint hairlines and even they are difficult to locate! The CBS labels are close to perfect with only a couple of faint spindle traces on each side.
Play Grading
The acoustic intro on 'Avalanche' plays with great clarity and the strings are so clean and precise. The opening vocal has no background and it continues to play with impeccable quality. The strings add another dimension to his music and the guitar work is exemplary. Put simply there is no intrusion from start to finish - the clarity, warmth and depth is stunning in every way. Mint- is deserved at the very least.
'Last Year's Man' is of the same high end standard and the clarity is just breathtaking. There is nothing to detract from the audio and I only heard one minor static tick in the middle section. This is seriously good! The choir vocal could not play any better either. A superb track and Mint-
'Dress Rehearsal Rag' again has no interference. A hint of vocal distortion but that seems like too strong a word - perhaps a 'fuzz' I'm not sure. I'm pointing it out but it is so minor and scarcely worth a mention. It still plays with exceptional audio and Mint- is still a fair assessment of the audio.
'Diamonds In The Mine' plays very clearly with no ticks, clicks, pops or static. It has just a little of that final track 'syndrome' where the audio is not quite as clean as the preceding tracks. Don't get me wrong it still plays damn well and Near Mint is still fair.

The acoustic intro on 'Love Calls You By Your Name' is 'as new' and the opening vocal section is the same aside from one minor static tick near the end. The next vocal has only 3/4 super quiet statics and from then on plays with wonderful clarity and definition. Admittedly there is one tick a little further in so overall I will grade as Near Mint but it's true to say 99% of this classic plays to perfection.
'Famous Blue Raincoat' plays with stunning quality throughout. A couple of minor statics on the opening vocal but there are no clicks or pops... obviously! It's played in such a delicate manner, a low-key number, and the clarity of sound is astonishing really. You can imagine playing this one evening on a dark winters' night with a glass of something reminiscing about times gone by! One very minor tick towards the end but overall I do believe Mint- is correct. A genuine classic.
The live version of 'Sing Another Song, Boys' plays with real quality with no sign of any interference. A couple of minor statics and only minimal distortion on the powerful vocal towards the end. Near Mint
'Joan Of Arc' concludes the album with superb audio. There is no intrusion and I only 'picked up' two light statics. The clarity and warmth of the audio is incredible for a final track, I cannot fault it really. A beautiful Mint- version.
The Cover, Small Booklet & CBS Inner Sleeve
The cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear and nothing stands out. The edges have some light rubbing and the spine remains in superb shape. The corners have only minimal wear and the opening edge has barely any handling wear. The front cover is very clean with only a small number of 'specks' near the top edge and the back cover has just two small faint creases. A very strong example overall.
The small booklet (with credits) is included and is in pristine Mint condition. The original CBS inner has some faint age related fading around the edges but there are no side splits or tears and hardly any creasing.

Postage & Packaging
I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
