LESTER YOUNG – KANSAS CITY STYLE – COMMODORE FL 20,021 – M-/M- - 10” LP – MONO
There are two sessions on this 10 in Commodore LP. Side 1 features Lester Young on tenor with Bill Coleman on trumpet, Dicky Wells on trombone, Joe Bushkin on piano, John Simmons on bass and Joe Jones on drums. They perform: THREE LITTLE WORDS; FOUR O’CLOCK DRAG; JO JO and I GOT RHYTHM. This was recorded on March 28, 1944. Side 2 features Lester Young with Buck Clayton on trumpet, Eddie Durham on trombone and electric guitar, Freddie Green on guitar, Walter Page on bass and Jo Jones on drums. They play: I WANT A LITTLE GIRL; COUNTLESS BLUES; PAGIN’ THE DEVIL and WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS. It was recorded on September 27, 1938 in New York. This is a 10 inch LP and a MONO recording.
I’ve graded both the vinyl and the record jacket as M_ for the following reasons. There are no marks on either side of the vinyl. I listened to it and heard no imperfections. There is no sign of wear on either side of the spindle hole and the vinyl still retains its original luster. The record jacket shows no sign of wear, except on the bottom seam, but it doesn’t take away from its overall condition. You can see for yourself. There are no taped seams.
