Description
[IT WAS CLOUDY all week here in Sunny Southern California, so I had no chance to take pictures in the bright sunlight, as is my habit. Rather than subject you to a week of re-runs, I bit the bullet and took pictures indoors, with artificial light.]
EDDIE WALTERS was a collegiate-style singer in the class of 1929-30, complete with argyle sweater, baggy pants, raccoon coat, hooch and ukelele, who sang "naughty" songs, in those Vitaphone frat house scenes. Might not be YOUR scene, but WHAT pals he brings to the party! This record gives generous solo space to the whole hard-drinking bunch of red-hot jazz men from Plunkett's speakeasy. The cuts are: "'LEVEN-THIRTY SATURDAY NIGHT" and "ME AND THE GIRL NEXT DOOR"
Too bad Bix wasn't there, but Walters got wild man TOMMY DORSEY on trumpet [!], brother JIMMY DORSEY (clarinet & alto), CHARLES BUTTERFIELD (trombone), ADRIAN ROLLINI (bass saxophone), FRANK SIGNORELLI (piano) CARL KRESS (guitar), and STAN KING (drums).
This original 1930 "Viva Tonal" Columbia 2137-D. is in fine EE+ condition. A lovely copy.
