 This is a rare first pressing on the Folkways label catalogue number FS 3822 released n 1959.It has the original address  "117 W. 46 St. N.Y.C."and not the later reissue "121 W. 47 St. NYC" It has the correct deep blue labels with silver lettering and deep groove as well as the"CUSTOM MOLDED BY PLASTYLITE" credit at the bottom of the label. All of these indicate a very genuine first pressing. Also included is the impossibly rare 4 page booklet in mint condition. So often this gets separated from the record.
. Folkways' Lightnin' Hopkins LP was recorded in 1959. Upon its initial release, it was a pivotal part of the blues revival and helped re-spark interest in Hopkins. Before it was recorded, the bluesman had disappeared from sight; after a great deal of searching, Sam Charters found Hopkins in a rented one-room apartment in Houston. Persuading Lightnin' with a bottle of gin, Charters convinced Hopkins to record ten songs in that room, using only one microphone. The resulting record was one of the greatest albums in Hopkins' catalogue, a skeletal record that is absolutely naked in its loneliness and haunting in its despair. These unvarnished performances arguably capture the essence of Lightnin' Hopkins better than any of his other recordings, and it is certainly one of the landmarks of the late-'50s/early-'60s blues revival.
The labels are in great shape without any worrying faults. No spindle marks, just a few light traces. There is no writing and no tears. There is no major spindle wear. If any all faults are minor - acceptable and nothing to worry about.
The disc is in lovely condition, visually pleasing without any worrying feelable scratches, rubs or surface marks. The disc dsplays a deep gloss and retains a beautiful shine and lustre. The record appears to have been loving played sparingly and played with a freat deal of care. Just a couple of extremely light insignificant unimportant surface marks.
The record tests extremely well, powerful and punchy without interuptions duringt playback. No major loss in sound quality or aural performance and no loud pops or clicks.

Disc plays as easily EX (actually better but I like to be conservative). Rare 4 page insert is NM. Very hard to find like this.
