WOW! Offered for auction: a beautiful 1968 ORIGINAL Promotional pressing of Lightnin' Hopkins "Free Form Patterns" L.P. on the INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS label from Houston, Texas.(#IA-LP6). This small Texas label released some of the greatest PSYCH and GARAGE records of the 1960's, including such powerhouse collectibles as the GOLDEN DAWN, the RED CRAYOLA, and Roky Erickson's 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS, (members of which appear on this record as credited back-up musicians- Duke Davis and Danny Thomas appear on 4 cuts). This L.P. was released with 2 different covers; an impossibly rare "photo" cover that was aimed at distribution to the "blues" market, and a psychedelic art cover. While more common than the "photo" cover, this ART cover is printed on a black background, and would rapidly show wear when opened. It is now nealry impossible to find Near Mint condition copies of this cover. THIS COVER IS IN NM CONDITION. It shows only the slightest storage wear, and has no ring-wear, writing, split seams or other distractions or damage. It is by far the best example I have ever seen of this original IA classic.
The Vinyl is equally impressive. The white promotional labels show no wear, and the playing surfaces are clean and un-marked. Inspection under a bright bulb shows only very faint sleeve marks and imperfections, (that were probably there when the record was first removed from its cover). The trail-off information reads: IA LP6 Side 1 1B. and IA LP6 Side 2 1B. There is no "Masterphonics" in the trail-off, and the vinyl is much thicker than the later, more flimsy reissues that IA distributed.
This is a "NO RESERVE" auction with a reasonable starting bid. Domestic PRIORITY MAIL shipping cost is $7.00. I use only new L.P. mailers, and the record is ALWAYS removed from the cover for safe shipment.
