Description
"LILI MARLENE" actually was the ONE point of agreement between the Allies and the Nazis in World War II: both sides deemed it a beautiful song, made it a hit, and got all misty over it. The power of music, and all that. MARLENE DIETRICH did her best to help it along, singing it to Allied troops in combat-weary Europe during the war, and on this fine Decca record, made in Hollywood in June 1945, just as hostilities were coming to an end. It still makes my heart go pit-a-pat, and I wasn't even BORN yet! Yeah, the power of music....
(n.b., the original title of this 1937 song was "Lili Marleen" until La Dietrich got hold of it. Since then it's been called "Lili Marlene" in her honor.)
"SYMPHONIE" is the flip side.
This original 1945 black label Decca 23456 is in lovely E condition, and plays great, despite the war-time shellac! (n. b., that catalogue number! I wish it was a poker hand instead of a record...)
