Review: LAB 1 marked Sheffield's third adventure in direct to disc recording. The purpose of recording in this live and direct method is to obtain the sonic merits of the pure disc medium as opposed to the characteristics of tape. In making a direct to disc recording, there is an optimum point, a plateau where the mixing, performance and feel, all happen at once. 
Aside from Mayorga, the players were Mike Deasy; Mike Anthony; Al Casey; Joanne Grauer; Victor Feldman; Gary Coleman; Jim Keltner; Malcolm McNab, and more, all of whom were among the most coveted artists in commercial recording at that time.
