Description
Here is a rare Northern Soul classic by Linda and the Pretenders on Assault Records, no. 1879/1880. A-side is "Believe Me" and the B-side is "It's Not My Will". This was produced by Eddie Singleton who was also behind the legendary Shrine label.
Dead wax markings are "Assault 1879-N" on the A-side, and "Assault 1880" on the B-side.
This record shows a lot of fine scuffs and scratches overall, but plays decently, still has a lot of gloss. It plays through OK with a lot background noise most noticeable at the beginning and end of each song, and has a minor dish warp which doesn't affect the play. The surface has a somewhat grainy appearance commonly seen on certain 50s labels, which no doubt contributes to the surface noise. There is some strange sibilance in a few loud passages toward the end of the B-side; it appears to be a problem with the original recording, not the mastering or the record itself (you can still hear it as the level fades out at the very end).
Overall, I rate it as G+, but please listen to both sides and judge the sound quality for yourself. No filtering or other processing has been done on these files.
