Original 1982 U.S. stereo press of LP on private Little Wing label Spokane, Washington
LION (self titled)
CONDITION:
cover: VG++ to Excellent
clean & sharp with just faint lite shelf wear/soiling ~ lite wear/fray to corners ( tiny nick to lower edge at center)
overall, cover has lite humidity ripple ~ nothing bad, but, noticeable
vinyl: Excellent
clean & glossy ~ several faint lite needlemarks ~ superficial only
plays excellent with several odd lite ticks noticeable between some of the tracks & on extro
~ very low level ~ does not disturb
rare private pomp rock reportedly from Vancouver, B.C.

REVIEW #1
If you like pomprock with a strong STYX vibe, especially in the vocal department, this is stuff you'll like for sure. To describe the band is a few words, I would go for a harder version of STYX.( Of course I mean the 80's STYX ) The band has 2 lead vocalists, of which K.D. Hansen is the better one, having a clear Dennis DeYoung kinda voice. Also, there're 2 guitars players in the band, so don't worry you guitar freaks out there, guitars are plenty present on the entire album. Almost every song contains a nice instumental break with plenty guitar solo's and keys.
There's not bad song on the album ~ every song has it's fine moments but to to name my favourite I would say that, Over Your Shoulder, with great pompous key solo and at the end a long instrumental part full of duelling guitar solo's, is the winner. Other very recommendable songs are "The Place" (mid tempo song with wonderful bridge, followed again by a great guitar solo), "Queen of the Forrest" (with pomp keys all the way at the end)and, the last song, "Time Won't Wait.
Yes indeed, another jewel in it's genre but not easy to track down.

THE BAND
Not to be confused with all the bands called Lion out there (including the UK version, and the LA version featuring Kal Swann), this lot of man-eaters came from the unlikely hotbed of AOR called Spokane Washington. These boys emerged back in the late 70's, and played all around the Pacific Northwest area and Montana. That was the story for these boys, and their Styx-ian flavored style of pomp must have been something to witness back in the day. The band feature two lead singers: bassist Kurt David Hansen and keysman Kevin Wakefield.
THE SONGS
Plenty of multi-part vocals to keep pompsters happy on the lead-off track 'On The Run', but things get exciting on the ambi-dextrous 'Over Your Shoulder' - full of solos of the guitar and keyboard variety. 'The Palace' is a slow-burner and not much in the show-off department, though the mid-song bridge and solo section is great, while Side one finishes off with the guitar rocker 'Send Up A Rainbow'. Side two starts out with the pomp and zany circumstance of 'Queen Of The Forest' - an upbeat track that errs on the Hobbit side of the soundboard. Keeping the pace is 'Where You Are' which is like Styx on steroids. Bringing the tempo back down a couple of notches is the mid-paced 'Waters Waiting', not a lot on offer here, but the closer 'Time Won't Wait' goes out in a blaze of glory, with a wailing guitar solo that's over a minute long as the band wind-down to the finish!
THE CONCLUSION
The ideas on this album are tailor made for the pomp and symphonic rock genre, though the production values are understandably under done. However, don't let that deter you. Fans of Styx, Ziggurat, Hobbit and perhaps Limousine might be interested in tracking this rarity down.
