Description
One of only four releases on Vernon Wray's Rumble label, this is Bobby Howard, AKA "The Kid" singing two Link Wray songs (credited Wray, Sr.), "Sleep Tight" and "True Love", RUMBLE 1347. VERY hard to find.
I found this copy in a metal bread tin in a home less than 2 miles from Vernon Wray's studio on Vermont Ave in DC where it was recorded. I think I can justify calling it a solid VG+ (conservatively so) and have posted a video (below) for your listening pleasure and so that you can get a better view of the vinyl than pics can provide.
Both sides play equally well. A few flea bites on the labels. Some scuffs and such and a very light barely visible scratch (no pops, can't feel it) on the "True Love" side that I think you can see in the video.
I don't think you'll find a finer copy of this record.
When you listen you'll notice a couple of instances of sibilance at around the 30-33 second mark that is inherent to the recording. All posted videos of this song (there are 4 or 5) contain the same instances of this sibilance.
The generic light brown paper sleeve is meh. VG I suppose. Believed original, no way to tell for sure.
Bobby Howard was also lead singer of a local DC group, The British Walkers (played at my high school in the 60's). My neighbor, who was founder of another DC band, The Cherry People tells me he used to see Bobby play with Link (as one of the Raymen) around DC in such clubs as the 1023 Club in Southeast.
