Earliest heavy pressing with red and silver non-boxed Decca labels. Also features first pressing matrix/mother/stamper numbers!

An unusually well preserved issue throughout.

Vinyl is visually close to near mint bar just one visible surface scuff across the first two tracks on side one. Both labels are clean and bright with no rubbing or loss of lustre. Just a very few spider trail marks are visible around centre spindle areas. Labels are free of tears, scuffs or marks.

The playing surfaces are visually very clean, and still have a rich and shiny black lustre. Aside from the mark mentioned no marks are immediately visible. Closer inspection with a magnifying glass reveals only a couple more wispy hairline sleeve removal type scuff marks. Generally appears a barely played and carefully handled LP.

Playback is very clean and bright and there is no underlying background noise. The often sparse instrumentation and vocals need quiet surfaces, and this one does not dissappoint. There is no distortion or groove wear. The surfaces are free of crackle and there are no ticks or clicks. The mentioned mark is superficial and non-sounding. Run-ins and band seperators are impressively quiet. Playback did exhibit some very occasional minor dust/static crackle, but this is without me making any attempt to clean the LP, and is only to be expected in an LP of this vintage which has not been cleaned of any dust etc. which may have accrued over the last fifty years plus.

Note that any dark marks to the vinyl surfaces in the photo are merely reflections.

Inner sleeve is original and in very clean and tidy condition. No age toning or seam splits, and just a modicum of gentle creasing. Catalogue number of LP is penned to one top corner, along with a couple of small penned ticks, but this is neat and tidy.

Sleeve is overall in very clean and tidy condition, and grades close to EX, especially given the flimsy and fragile nature. Just slight overall shelving and rlingwear rubbing, but this is to a minimum, and front and rear panels are still clean and unmarked. The front panel is especially bright and attractive still. Rear backflaps intact and tidy with just one tiny dink. Seams are neat and unworn and spine is in good shape. There are just three small chips of whitening to the spine. Laminate is intact with just a little chipping at front and rear entry sides. Both entry sides are still crisp and sharp and not feathered however. Tips just very gently rubbed.

Overall a very well preserved issue of this LP, which is tough to find in any condition, let alone as a true early first pressing.

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
