Description
First class slab of Soul on the small-but-mighty Tomahawk imprint (#164). The label was out of Columbus GA ("The Forgotten City"), and was one of those operations that recorded almost anyone who walked thru the door. In practice that means there's a lot of C&W on the label, but there are a few great and RARE R&B/Soul discs (See Brian Poust's fine website at http://georgiasoul.com/ for more info).
The "I Want Somebody To Love" side is a fine Funk excursion, uptempo, good guitar, bongos, solid vocal from Ronald Thrash. But it's the flip that really kills me-a Deep Soul masterpiece called "I'm In Need". This song has it all-primitive-but-perfect production, slow beat, horns that come in at just the right time- and, of course most importantly, a heart-rending vocal from Little Van Culverson.
