From Cueto to Geneva is a fair old commute for a roots session, but Lone Ark and The 18th Parallel make the distance sound worthwhile on Showcase Vol. 2. Cut to 2" tape - and the record has real physical heft: 'Man Kill Man' rides heavyweight drums under Sanchez's anti-war lyric; the horn writing gives it a lovely 70s Jamaican bite. 'Money' is even more pointed as capitalism gets its own bass-heavy dressing-down before the dub version takes the arrangement apart. Six songs, six dubs. Old-school format, but there ain't nothing dusty about the conviction.
