Alonzo Johnson, born in New Orleans in 1889, was one of the great influences on both Blues guitar and vocals. Like so many of the legends, his recording successes were few, limited to four tunes that made the R&B Singles chart in 1948-50. Three of those appear on this, his first album: "Tomorrow Night" (#1 in 1948), "Pleasing You" (#2 in 1948), and "So Tired" (#9 in 1949). He first recorded for Okeh in 1925, cutting an astonishing 130 songs between 1925 and 1932, and playing with Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington along the way (all tracks on this album were recorded in December 1947 and August 1948)

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+(+) . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          This is the original flat edge pressing

(e)           Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(f)            Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart (issued in 1970 under the title "Tomorrow Night"). We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 300:1.

(g)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT  VERY GOOD+ (VG+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Massive and annoying annotation covers much (at least 40%) of the back cover.

-         At least 5 (we'd lost count) small stickers plastered all over the back panel, some of which might be possible to remove (we caution against)

-         Back cover has a tape residue (yellowish discoloration from the removed piece of old and aged scotch tape)

-         Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially split,  as follows:

-         Top seam: (indeterminable length); This split seam was  taped by the previous owner with an annoying piece of yellow electric isolation tape, which we do not recommend be removed.

-         Bottom seam: between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters. This split seam was  taped by the previous owner with multiple pieces of transparent scotch tape

-         Spine: between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters. This split seam was  taped by the previous owner with multiple pieces of transparent scotch tape

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Cover shows some considerable yellowing on back side, apparently from aging

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on all three seams

-         Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No wrinkles or creases

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
