2010 MARKS THE 50th. ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST RECORDING EVER MADE BY THE LEGENDARY "COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER" LORETTA LYNN IN 1960 . . . THE SELF WRITTEN "I'm A Honky-Tonk Girl".
This recording on the independent ZERO RECORDS label debuted on the BILLBOARD COUNTRY SINGLES CHART on June 13, 1960 and peaked at #14 after only 9 weeks ! Loretta recorded 2 additional singles for ZERO RECORDS . . . another in 1960 and the third and final single in 1961. . .the self-penned "THE DARKEST DAY" with "GONNA PACK MY TROUBLES" on the B-side, which I am offering in this auction. This is a promotional copy of this single that was distributed only to country radio DJ's.
50 years later these ZERO RECORDS 45 RPM singles are VERY RARE, HIGHLY VALUED, COLLECTOR'S ITEMS.
"Goldmine Price Guide To 45 RPM Records" by Martin Popoff (7th. edition copyright 2009) values a mint condition copy of this record at $400.00. The pictures I have attached to this listing show the page from this book where this value is quoted and a copy of the cover of this very reputable collector's guide.
I rate this record in overall VERY GOOD CONDITION. The record itself has no real visible scratches or scuffs on either side and the label on the A-side is in near mint condition; however, the label on the B-side has two blue X's on it written in blue ink pin.But most importantly, BOTH SIDES PLAY WITHOUT ANY SKIPS and with good sound quality considering the age of the record and the independent record company nature of the recording (low-to-no budget ! !).
