El camino que hubiera seguido la carrera de Los Brincos si no hubiera ocurrido la expulsión de Juan Pardo y Junior es toda una incógnita, y la verdad es que este tipo de elucubraciones es más para el tipo de conversaciones que se tendrían en la terraza de un bar. Visto desde la perspectiva del tiempo, el público que había sido fiel al grupo en lugar de perder ganó, puesto que ambos bandos tomaron caminos totalmente separados, Juan y Junior se decantaron por el pop más clásico con pomposos arreglos y armonías vocales, mientras que Los Brincos recrudecieron más su sonido. De este giro en el sonido también tuvieron parte de culpa los nuevos miembros del grupo, ya que Vicente Ramírez y Ricky Morales formaban parte de Los Shakers , que dentro de la escena musical madrileña eran unos de los más salvajes. El resultado final de todo esto fue inmejorable, “Contrabando” (Novola, 1968) es la obra maestra de Los Brincos. El disco ahonda más en todas las influencias que hasta esos momentos habían tenido, pero con el paso del tiempo aprendieron a que sólo fueran eso, influencias, tenerlos como meros referentes donde apoyarse, una base donde poder expandir todo su potencial. Las canciones están repletas de pequeños arreglos que sirven para sumar a unas canciones que ya de por si son notables. Los Brincos demuestran que han madurado, ya no son esos veinteañeros que hacían canciones sobre amores adolescentes, o los que ponían un tono macarra a sus canciones.
