·       The bidders should note that this is a rare Bob Ludwig-mastered pressing of this album, with his initials “RL” (Robert Ludwig) etched in the trail-off vinyl of the disc. All the wonderful elements of Bob Ludwig’s trademark mastering style are here: incredible clarity and balanced channel separation, vivid and spacious “ambience” sound, as well as wide dynamic and frequency range of the sound spectrum.  As is almost always the case with Bob Ludwig’s masterings, the Bob Ludwig-mastered pressings of this album are CONSIDERABLY rarer than the regular, non-Ludwig copies of this album.

Although Lou Reed vigorously denied this throughout his career, the lore has it that "Metal Machine Music" was his "contractual obligation album", which he 'recorded' only to get out of his RCA contract (he signed up for Arista the following year). How else to explain four sides worth of amplified molecular sounds and electronically generated white noise (also available in QUAD, for those who care to hear...do note that we only have a stereo version here). Nevertheless, in view of the rise of techno/industrial/musique concrete movements over the past few years, the album grew in stature and became somewhat of a cult classic. So…Lou Reed become a proud father of another experimental rock classic…Track listing? Um…what do you mean by "tracks"?

The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has one corner slightly worn / dinged / bent.
