There were few bands as joyous as Louis Armstrong's. He not only embraced jazz, but with his vocals in the mix (a rarity at the time) he pushed the barriers way back with scat singing that was streets ahead of all others.
Everybody seems to have their own favorite period of Satch records, and he frequently updated his sound to stay with – or just ahead of the times. This one’s from the spring of 1931 and his band here is under the name Sebastian New Cotton Club Orchestra. That’s the new name he took up the previous July. This is the last of his records to use this name.
