Description
Rare vintage 45 rpm private-label country record: LOUIS NUNLEY - MY TENNESSEE PLOT b/w (instrumental) CHICKEN 'N RICE; Includes original mailer postmarked 1968 from Lynchburg, TN with three 6 cent Franklin D Roosevelt stamps. Vinyl condition is excellent, with a few faint hairlines visible under strong light.
The Tennessee Squire Association (pressed by Columbia Records); number is only in the deadwax: JDD 5175; no date but possibly 1968. Both tracks written and produced by Hank Fort (a woman, real name Alma Louise Middleton Hankins Fort) who was a singer, actress, composer, songwriter ("I Didn't Know the Gun Was Loaded"), teacher and author. The A-side credits Louis Nunley as the singer - Nunley was a veteran of the music industry in Nashville. As the Bass Singer with The Anita Kerr Singers since February 1953, he was one of the twenty or so performing musicians, including The Jordanaires, whose contributions to recordings were the basis of what has become known the world over as "The Nashville Sound".
The Tennessee Squire Association was formed in 1956 to honor special friends of the Jack Daniel's Whiskey distillery. Many prominent business and entertainment professionals are included among the membership, which is obtained only through recommendation of a current member. Squires receive a wallet card and deed certificate proclaiming them as "owner" of an unrecorded plot of land at the distillery (hence the name of the A-side track) and an honorary citizen of Moore County, Tennessee.
