Somebody injected Lowell Fulson with a funk serum, and the Tramp album was born.
Smash hit tune "Tramp" aside, the rest of these tunes attempt at clinging to the "Tramp" game winning formula.
Great funky drums, stingy blues guitar, and heavy bass.
"Pico" is an instrumental version of "Tramp", "No Hard Feelings" is a "Tramp" offshoot...and so you get the picture.
Lowell Fulson's blues sound was always a bit one dimensional, but definitely all his own.
As time marched on, into the late 60's and early 70's, he was one of the few heavy blues guys embracing the musical direction of the counter culture.
Can't say he knocked it out of the park, but it did raise an eyebrow for those otherwise not interested in standard blues.
Tramp is the blues man's best album of his scattered recordings throughout his career, and for a moment in time, this era of Lowell Fulson made the most sense.
