Being offered is the 12" vinyl LP album: 2001: A Space Odyssey read by the author Arthur C. Clarke. A single disc album, published in 1976 by Caedmon Records, catalog number TC 1504.

When we hear the opening of Also Sprach Zarathustra, we instinctively steel ourselves for enormous leaps through space and time. We have since 1968, when Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey made Richard Strauss' 1896 piece its theme music. (Kubrick, as we posted in 2014, did commission an original score, only to reject it as "completely inadequate for the film.") If you saw and loved it during its original theatrical run, long before the advent of home video, you had only a limited set of ways to re-live it at will. The obvious choice included buying a copy of the soundtrack or Arthur C. Clarke's eponymous novel (or, for the kids, to go eat at Howard Johnson's), but in 1976, you could also buy a record that gave you a bit of both at once. On this now out-of-print record, Clarke reads the final chapters of 2001 with the accompaniment of that most recognizable piece from the film score, all packaged in a sleeve featuring an image of Keir Dullea as Mission Commander David Bowman on one of the film's immaculately crafted space-station sets.

Shipping:

I ship to the US only, via USPS (The Post Office). I do not ship outside the United States - no exceptions.
Books, sound recordings, and video tape will be sent via USPS media rate. Other goods are shipped via USPS Parcel Post. Choosing less costly shipping methods makes for lower costs for you and makes the acquisition of eBay goods more realistic. Please allow a reasonable amount of time for delivery: in particular, note the eBay annotation for expected delivery times for shipping methods. Shipments which have to travel the full width of the country will necessarily take maximal time, as compared with shipments to an adjoining New England state. And make allowances for bad weather in regions through which your package will pass, as poor travel conditions necessarily impact transit times. USPS has been 100% reliable, so delivery should be certain. Goods will ship the next non-holiday weekday after payment is received.

Goods will be packed to avoid damage in shipment, to the extent reasonable. As a buyer, I would want my goods to arrive in good order, and so I do what I can for you as the buyer to have everything arrive in its ship-time condition.
