Description

TITLE:  Albatross (Anvil Records)

COVER CONDITION:  VG++

VINYL CONDITION:  VG+

DETAILS:  rare Yes influenced prog from rural Midwest on small private label. The amazing Acid Archives book says:  Extended numbers such as 'Cannot be Found' and 'Humpback Whales' make it pretty clear these guys worshipped at the altar of Yes. As the owner of more than my share of Yes albums, I'll admit that isn't necessarily a bad thing, but then its probably not the smartest concept with which to pursue a musical career. Okay, enough of the negativity. All five of the tracks, including the 14 minutes plus epic 'Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse' are worth hearing. Novak's voice will be an acquired taste for some folks, but his delivery fits the material well. Lead guitarist Roe is quite impressive, but most of the spotlight is on keyboardist Dahlgren who effortlessly manages to span the gauntlet from tasteful synthesizer passages ('Devil's Strumpet'), to Keith Emerson-styled wall organ overload. Certainly better than other Yes-wannabees like the dreaded Starcastle, but not quite as good as Cathedral. [SB]

All LPs are original issues.  We do not sell bootlegs or reissues unless noted.

GRADING SCALE

G  : very rough, loss of shine. I only list G records that are extremely rare, or play well for the condition.

VG- :  rough copy that should play pretty well, with some clicks/pops/light noise expected.

VG :  Considerably marked/scratched up copy, but plays with no serious flaws. A few clicks or pops should be expected, but nothing seriously affecting play.  A very suitable copy for working DJs.

VG+  :   A shiny copy with a few flaws, might have a lot or a few light marks, or one big mark/scratch that doesn't affect play.   Always plays great, with one or two normal pops/clicks/etc.

VG++ :  Very close to being perfect, shows some signs of play, handling marks, one or two very light marks expected, but a record that has been handled with care.

NM :  Looks unplayed, as close to perfect as it gets. Possibly some very light sleeve marks or an extremely minor flaw that will in no way affect play.

 Where "strong" is written, it is very close to being the next grade higher.

Added a picture of the label.  Apparently there is a bootleg with a reddish label out there.  This is a guaranteed original pressing!
