CONDITION ( see 5 photos above ...)
VINYL : superb / both sides are extremely clean & bright / retains all of its original sheen / only lightly played / a brilliant crisp and clean sound with no pops or skips / plays and sounds 'as new' / no marks visible to the naked eye & only a couple of very faint paper hair-line scuffs discernable under a bright halogen lamp / no trace anywhere of groove-wear distortion or crackle on any track / both 'run-ins' are silent and overall it would appear hard to find a better looking or sounding copy / clean labels / difficult to rate any less than Near Mint as definitely a cut above a EX+ grading and I’m generally noted a a tough marker / a faultless sound here that is certain to please.GATE-FOLD SLEEVE : fabulous / no writing or splits and the spine is intact / no creasing / minimal outer-edge wear only / strong, clean and bright bearing just light handling and storage wear only / a bright laminated cover with square corners / the somewhat 'thin' (not squashed) spine retains its full laminate and all wording is perfect and undamaged / the inside of the gatefold is in fantastic shape with no creases, writing or marks / all the seams are strong, unstressed and un-split / presents magnificently and as good as you could possibly hope to find short of Mint.

DESCRIPTION
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the eighth studio album by the Fab Four. Often described as The Beatles' magnum opus and one of the most influential albums of all time by prominent critics and publications and ranked the greatest album of all time by Rolling Stone in 2003.Whilst Mono copies of Sgt. Pepper are generally not uncommon , this particular late 1969 UK issue is without doubt the rarest and arguably the best sounding 1960's Mono pressing.
One of the main reasons Mono copies of Sgt. Peppers are sought after is due to the Beatles' own involvement in the mix…. something which did not occur with any other of their albums.
Up to 1969 all of the UK Beatles Parlophone LP's were pressed on black & yellow labels (excepting of course the 1st Please Please Me on the black & gold label). In mid-1969 this changed and all re-issues appeared on black & silver labels. This is commonly called the 70's label, because it lasted through most the 70's and into the 80's.
The earliest variety of the 70's label (up through 1973) is nicknamed the "one mark" label because only one EMI logo appears on the label (as is the case with this LP on offer here) …later copies have two EMI logos.
'Sgt. Pepper' was one of only 3 mono titles to make the transition to the 'One EMI Box' label in late 1969.
Of these three UK mono releases on the 'One EMI Box', this is the most difficult pressing to find as only a few hundred were produced and they sold poorly. As a result this particular issue changes hands these days at very high prices.
So …getting back to the nitty-gritty … this is the 1969 MONO pressing on the UK black & silver 'One EMI Box' label: PMC 7027 issued in a fully laminated, internal 'flipback' mono 'Garrod & Lofthouse' cover with original plain white 'Patent Nos..' inner sleeve and cut-out sheet. The ‘wide’ internal flip-backs (2cm) are only at the top of the internal cover as per photo above. This is also the ‘mono’ sleeve as found printed at the top right corner on the back cover.
Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but carry 'Gramophone Co Ltd...' rims.
There is no tax/price code is visible on either label.
The Matrix numbers are : XEX 637-1 & XEX 638-1 and the Stamper numbers are : 2/MPQ & 3/MOL
