Released in 1972, Transa is a masterpiece by Brazilian Tropicalia icon Caetano Veloso. Recorded during his political exile in London, the album is a profound fusion of Brazilian rhythms, '70s electric rock, and avant-garde psychedelia. It remains a towering, universally revered staple of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB).
Following his imprisonment by Brazil's military dictatorship, Caetano Veloso was exiled to London in 1969. Transa (Portuguese for "lovemaking" or "deal") was recorded in England in 1971 just before his return home. It serves as an allegorical reflection on displacement, identity, and the immigrant experience.
The album is distinct for its intentional use of antropofagia (cultural cannibalism). Veloso deconstructs his native tongue by oscillating between English and Portuguese lyrics, infiltrating the colonizer's language from within. Sonically, it trades previous experimental excesses for a cohesive, masterful backing band—directed by guitarist Jards Macalé.
Philips – 6349 026. This is the 1972 TRIFOLD GLOSSY JACKET with moderate corner wear, light to moderate corner and edge wear, heavier wear bottom edge of back gatefold. Discogs notes that, "Some copies came with insert." There was no insert in this copy. LP stored in plain white inner sleeve, LOOKS QUITE PLAYABLE with a faint unfeelable scratch or scuff over a mostly clean surface, will grade VG++.
