THE JAZZ COMPOSER'S ORCHESTRA "Communication" (Fontana 681 0111 ZL) original UK 1965 MONO pressing (black/silver label) gatefold sleeve
STUNNING CONDITION JAZZ RARITY! The word rare gets thrown around a lot on ebay - but this record's existence seems to be totally undocumented. The few copies which have sold on ebay have all been Dutch stereo releases (indeed, this record comes in a Dutch gatefold sleeve) - this release is a MONO 1965 FONTANA first pressing - I've checked against other UK Fontana pressings from a similar time and the matrixes etc. look identical.
Matrix: 681 011 1L*1 420 1 1 1 and 681 011 2L*1 420 1 1 1
Obviously from the 1 1 1 matrix endings, this was the very first and presumably only pressing.
Great line-up featuring PAUL BLEY, MIKE MANTLER, CARLA BLEY, ARCHIE SHEPP, JOHN TCHICAI, ROSWELL RUDD, MILFORD GRAVES, STEVE LACY, KEN McINTYRE etc. recorded live in New York 1965. Three long tracks "ROAST" (Carla Bley), "DAY" (Mike Mantler) and "COMMUNICATIONS No.5" (Mike Mantler). Stunning sleeve art by MARTE ROLING.
A must for any rare jazz collection! Will be posted in strong cruciform mailer, with stiffeners - BUYER MUST PAY FOR INSURANCE, WAIT FOR INVOICE.

CONDITION : M-/M- (Sleeve/Record)
DESCRIPTION : I'll try not to drone on in too much detail and over-use CAPITAL LETTERS and EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!! This record has been extremely well looked after. The sleeve is near perfect - it's very fragile, and amazingly shows almost no wear at all. The very lightest of rubbing on the corners and I suspect it was like this when purchased new. The very thin spine is pristine - and there's no ring-wear. Grades as mint minus.
Disc looks like it's been played maybe two or three times. A couple of tiny ultra-fine scuffs are all that keeps this off true mint. Audio is utterly superb. Labels are pristine. Best copy you're ever likely to find...

SMALL PRINT : I am first and foremost a collector, and grade strictly as I wish everyone would. Records will be well-packed between cardboard, and sent in record mailers. In the interests of the environment, these will be recycled whenever possible. Albums will be removed from outer sleeve to avoid seam splits in transit. All records are sent with a certificate of posting, if you wish additional insurance please ask – I cannot be held responsible for missing parcels.
