This LP record features the beautiful American Folk songs of Jean Ritchie, (1922 - 2015), with dulcimer accompaniment. This singer, musician, and author is widely regarded as “The Mother of American Folk Music”. She has influenced generations of folk artists including Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, Judy Collins, and Doc Watson. A scion of the venerable Ritchies of Perry Count Kentucky, a famous ballad singing family, she collected and memorized over 300 folk ballads in her childhood. After college she became a teacher before achieving world fame as the living historian of folk music. She also was the prime mover behind the revival of the dulcimer as a performance instrument. Jean Ritchie is a legendary performer and scholar in the field of folk music, and her recorded works are eagerly sought by collectors. Note minor wear and scuffs on album sleeve.
