In The Wake Of Poseidon è il secondo album dei King Crimson, e ricalca in tutto e per tutto l'album che l'ha preceduto (In The Court Of Crimson King), cominciando dalla similitudine del titolo per finire ai contenuti.

Il disco vede un cambio di formazione rispetto al precedente: Robert Fripp, chitarrista geniale, vero padrone del marchio Crimson, guida naturalmente il gruppo. Dietro i tamburi viene riconfermato Mike Giles; il basso è nelle mani di Peter Giles, mentre Greg Lake, precedente bassista, si limita a cantare e neanche tutti i pezzi. I brani non cantati da Lake sono interpretati da Gordon Haskell, che nel disco successivo prenderà anche il basso. Ai fiati viene chiamato Mel Collins mentre dal mondo del jazz arriva Keith Tippet al pianoforte.

L'album si apre con una breve introduzione di sola voce, “Peace - A Beginning”, che sfocia nel brano “Picture Of A City”, vero clone della “21th Century Schizoid Man” del primo album (di cui peraltro non possiede la stessa intensità), cantata con grinta da Lake.

A seguire “Cadence And Cascade”, delicata ballata cantata da Haskell che a sua volta fa riferimento alla “I Talk To The Wind” del disco precedente. Quarta traccia è “In The Wake Of Poseidon”, maestosa, struggente e barocca che invariabilmente richiama i contenuti del primo album, nella fattispecie il brano “Epitaph”.

Dopo una ripresa del tema iniziale, “Peace - A Theme”, questa volta eseguito con la sola chitarra acustica, si arriva finalmente ad un brano che non ha legami col passato, anzi pesca a piene mani nel mondo del jazz, e qui l'influenza di Keith Tippet è palese. Il pezzo s'intitola “Cat Food”, cantata con la solita maestria da Lake. E' un brano di difficile assimilazione: le dissonanze che lo arricchiscono non sono certo adatte a tutte le orecchie.

Ma ben più ostico è il brano successivo “The Devil's Triangle”, un pezzo che è l'inizio degli sperimentalismi sonori di Fripp che troveranno sfogo nei dischi successivi non solo dei Crimson ma anche in quelli delle varie collaborazioni nelle quali Robert Fripp si troverà coinvolto spesso. “The Devil's Triangle” è un pezzo oscuro, inquietante, quasi drammatico in un crescendo parossistico dopo il quale il pezzo finale arriva come una liberazione.

Il disco si chiude con l'ennesima ripresa del tema iniziale: “Peace - An End”, per contrasto arioso ma un po’ nostalgico. Voce e chitarra acustica insieme dipingono un breve quadretto malinconico che va a chiudere un album di buona fattura ma sicuramente inferiore a quello che l'ha preceduto.

Oggetto in ottime condizioni , il Vinile ha qualche segno leggero ma alla vista è lucido e bello da vedere , lìetichetta è perfetta di un rosa intenso. La cover è l'originale prima gatefold ed in considerazione della fragilità della manifattura nella prima edizione che è risultata molto delicata, questa è veramente in bellissima condizione leggere usura di sfregatura negli angoli, ma dovuto proprio alla delicatezza di questa copertina.

In The Wake Of Poseidon is the second album by King Crimson, and follows in all respects the album that preceded it (In The Court Of Crimson King), starting from the similarity of the title to finish the contents.

The disc sees a change of formation compared to the previous: Robert Fripp, brilliant guitarist, true master of the Crimson brand, naturally leads the group. Mike Giles is reconfirmed behind the drums; the bass is in the hands of Peter Giles, while Greg Lake, former bassist, is limited to singing and not all the pieces. The songs not sung by Lake are played by Gordon Haskell, who will also take the bass on the next album. The wind is called Mel Collins, while Keith Tippet arrives at the piano from the jazz world.

The album opens with a brief introduction of voice only, "Peace - A Beginning", which ends in the song "Picture Of A City", a true clone of the "21th Century Schizoid Man" of the first album (of which, however, does not possess the same intensity), sung with grit from Lake.

Following "Cadence And Cascade", a delicate ballad sung by Haskell who in turn refers to the "I Talk To The Wind" of the previous album. The fourth track is "In The Wake Of Poseidon", majestic, poignant and baroque that invariably recalls the contents of the first album, in this case the song "Epitaph".

After a resumption of the initial theme, "Peace - A Theme", this time performed with the only acoustic guitar, we finally arrive at a song that has no ties with the past, indeed it draws heavily in the world of jazz, and here the Keith Tippet's influence is evident. The piece is called "Cat Food", sung with the usual skill by Lake. It is a passage that is difficult to assimilate: the dissonances that enrich it are certainly not suitable for all ears.

But even more difficult is the following piece "The Devil's Triangle", a piece that is the beginning of Fripp's sound experimentalisms that will be released in later albums not only by Crimson but also in those of the various collaborations in which Robert Fripp will be involved often. "The Devil's Triangle" is a dark, disquieting, almost dramatic piece in a paroxysmal crescendo after which the final piece arrives as a liberation.

The album closes with the umpteenth revival of the initial theme: "Peace - An End", for airy contrast but a bit nostalgic. Voice and acoustic guitar together paint a short melancholic picture that goes to close an album of good workmanship but certainly less than the one that preceded it.

Object in excellent condition, the Vinyl has some light sign but the view is shiny and beautiful to see, there is a perfect label of a deep pink. The cover is the original first gatefold and in consideration of the fragility of the manufacture in the first edition that was very delicate, this is really beautiful condition slight rubbing wear in the corners, but due precisely to the delicacy of this cover.
