KOKO TAYLOR

Basic Soul

CHESS CH 50018

Stereo

1972

I bought this LP new in August 1980.

Cover - Shrink on.  Blue marker/paint on upper spine, bottom right corner snipped off.  This was a cutout.  Probably a reshrink.  I think the blue on the spine is under the shrink.  There are a few light creases in the perimeter.  No splitting to cover.  Price tag on shrink.

Vinyl - Some rubs, some small spots.

Sleeve - CADET CADET/CONCEPT paper with album pics.  The albums I checked at bsnpubs indicate the albums pictured are from the late 1960’s.  Not sure if this is the sleeve that came with this, but it is with it now.

Pressing Rings 29mm

GS - Gary Starr mastering engineer

Recorded at Ter-Mar, Chicago

CHESS-GRT

You can type in Gary Starr mastering engineer and on his Discogs listings this shows up.

His name is on the back cover, bottom right.

The Discogs examples have different label printings for the different sized Pressing Rings.

I find no indication that this was pressed in or before 1980 other than the original 1972 release.  So it’s probably a first issue.

The album is produced by Willie Dixon, and he wrote 6 of the songs.

Super lineup backs Koko and we have 10 solid songs.
