Description

Vinyl LP record:

LED ZEPPELIN "IV"  aka "4" aka "Four Symbols" (Atlantic 2401012) original UK 1971 stereo 1st pressing (red/plum label)

CLASSIC ALBUM RARE GENUINE FIRST PRESSING! With really rare stickered labels. Genuine first pressings can be noted by the following:

1) Un-laminated gatefold cover, with NO text at all.

2) Rough paper inner sleeve has flipbacks down the edges and "Executive Producer Peter Grant" text.

3) Labels are red and plum classic Atlantic design... However, there are various unique differences with genuine first pressings. On the very first run (a few hundred escaped) "Under licence from Atlantic Recording Corp." appears ABOVE the white stripe (and not inside it), with the band name appearing in the bottom half with Executive Producer Peter Grant label text. These were quickly replaced with new labels with the Peter Grant credit removed, publishing info added and LED ZEPPELIN appearing on the top half of the label.

This copy has stickers cleverly coloured, with the bottom purple one covering the offending Peter Grant grant and adding publishers. Since this sticker covered where the band name was, there is a red background sticker with LED ZEPPELIN which was placed in the space below the four symbols in the top half. SO... this looks like a later press, but is, in fact, a SUPREMELY rare CORRECTED version of the very first pressing. I can find VERY few examples of this transitional copy ever being offered for sale...

4) Record is heavyweight, with earliest A3/B3 matrices and PECKO DUCK and PORKY run-outs:

Matrix: 2401012 A//3  ( 1 2 7)  PECKO DUCK and  2401012 B//3  ( 1 2 1) PORKY

An essential addition to any progressive psychedelic rock collection!

CONDITION : VG+/VG+ (Sleeve/Record)

DESCRIPTION : The record has been well looked after, but does have a few light non-sounding surface scuffs - no scratches. Audio is superb, maybe the odd light pop here and there, but the music is cut LOUD on this first press - plays superbly, loud and clear - no crackle! Labels are pristine. Sleeve shows light general wear - some light edge wear - with a very small tear on top left where a sticker was removed (so it's white on grey background, so not too noticeable). Generally in very good shape for a 40 year old sleeve. Inner sleeve is fragile and shows some general wear - seam splits on each side, and quite a long one on the bottom edge. I'll send disc in a new paper sleeve to avoid any further damage to inner sleeve during transit. All round great playing copy if you're not a mint collector!

KEYWORDS : Vertigo swirl Vertigo spiral, Neon, Deram Nova, Decca Nova, Harvest, Dawn Records, Pegasus, Nepentha, Pokora, Galactic Ramble, Blue Horizon, pink Island, Charisma scroll, progressive rock, etc.

SMALL PRINT : I am first and foremost a collector, and grade strictly as I wish everyone would. Records will be well-packed between cardboard, and sent in record mailers. In the interests of the environment, these will be recycled whenever possible. Albums will be removed from outer sleeve to avoid seam splits in transit. All records are sent with a certificate of posting.
