I bought this LP new in October 1974.
Cover - Shrink mostly on. Missing piece at bottom on front and back. No writing. no cardboard splits. Light corner bumps. Green Sam on red background, maybe some kind of psychedelic attempt. I think this is what the original cover was. The Delmark address on the back cover, bottom left, is earlier than that on the labels. Other issues on Discogs, ebay, have regular photo of Sam.
Vinyl - Very clean, played maybe twice. 4243 N Lincoln address on labels.
Sleeve - Plain white paper.

? in circle - I don’t think any of these is an aberration of the tulip symbol. I don’t know what they are.
I lean this being probably a 1970 pressing. Other examples show a different back cover layout which I’m guessing is from 1968. Cvinyl has the labels, with the 4243 N Lincoln Ave address, dated as 1970’s. The Discogs Wakefield site has the SJW in the runout stopping in 1969. So, if that’s correct, and the #2 indicates the second stamper, this copy would still be from the original master. Therefore we’re hearing the same content as the 1968 buyer.
And what content it is! Sam has a wonderful blues voice, and he and Mighty Joe Young know the guitar. I don’t know which of them is sparking my attention here and there, but I’ll attribute the lead to Sam.
A great backing by a couple different bass and drums propel Sam through some outstanding presentations. 5 of the songs here are over 4 minutes, and only 2 are under 3 minutes. We get a lot to enjoy.
The back cover liner notes have an error in printing. After the opening paragraph by Bob Koester, the column should begin with “Samuel Maghett was born …”. The actual 1st paragraph, “After a hitch in the army …”, should be at the bottom of the column, leading into the top of the 2nd column. Not a big deal.
