Item : 12” Album
Artist : Martha & The Vandellas
Title : Dance Party
Year : 1965
Issue : original US 1st pressing – Gordy label # G915 - mono
********************************* An excellent original US 1st mono pressing of one of the more recognised killer-soul albums of the 60’s and seriously recommended in most circles as a must-have LP in any half-decent Motown collection.
Without doubt one of the great party albums of the 1960s “Dance Party” is made up of material from Reeves and The Vandellas singles that went back to the previous summer, benefiting from the presence of the group's biggest single ("Dancing in the Street") and its follow-up, the hypnotically pounding, driving, soaring "Wild One," and the classic "Nowhere to Run," surrounded by a trio of well-above-average B-sides and covers of such Motown dance standards as "Mickey's Monkey" and "Hitch Hike." Even the rest was hardly filler, however, with Martha Reeves turning in a gloriously impassioned performance on the ballad "There He Is (At My Door)" and the group acquitting itself beautifully on "Motoring" … all of which still sounds refreshingly great every time this gets a spin.

CONDITION : see 5 photos above
Vinyl : A chunky piece pressed at 140grams that sounds just brilliant in original mono. A nice sheen both sides with some light surface marks that don’t reflect in the playback quality. No pops or skips and a top audio sound which is rare for this LP which was a constant party favourite upon release. Rated a very strong VG+ by hardliners though I reckon it is worth an EX at the very least … the reproduction here is terrific and is sure to please. A beauty !
Labels : Clean with barely any spindle marks of note.
Sleeve : Superb 1st pressing hard cover US jacket . No writing, marks or ring-wear. No splits. No creasing. A little wear to the corners. Presents wonderfully well and as good as you could expect these days.
