Vintage boxed set 33 1/3 RPM LP records.Leaves of Grass.Walt Whitman.
4-12 inch records wrapped in record sleeve grills(looks like light wax paper
without wax so to speak)
Selections read by Dan O'Herlihy.Living Literature series by the publishers of
The Living Language Courses.Label on record(in great condition protected by sleeve)

Each record in VF condition at least.Probably finer.VF+
No major scratches or wear.
Looks like they were hardly played.Very clean and shiny mostly and what I do see
would probably clean up very nice -no expert in cleaning vinyl.I am grading these
on side giving you the edge here.I think they are better but do not want to say
they are near mint when they are not.They seem very close to near mint in my book.
They have been sitting on someone's shelf over 40 years unopened and unplayed.
I do know that.Selections read are Whitman's most famous from one of the most
popular American poet's works ever published-Leaves of Grass.Leaves of Grass published
first in 1855.I copied this of Wikipedia.Thanx Wikipedia!You're the best!All the way.
"There is no definitive edition of Leaves of Grass — Whitman continually revised his
 masterwork, adding and occasionally removing poems. The first edition, published
 on July 4, 1855 in Brooklyn, New York, was remarkable for its sense of novelty —
 the style and subject matter were almost entirely unknown before its publication.
Whitman paid for and did much of the typesetting for the first edition, which he published
 anonymously. However, again flouting convention, a picture of Whitman appeared on the
 inside of the front cover, dressed in work clothes and a jaunty hat, arms at his side
 in a pose embodying the everyman persona he exalts in his poetry.

The Drum-Taps section was added in 1865, after the death of Abraham Lincoln.
 Lincoln, Whitman's hero, had read and reportedly enjoyed the earlier version of Leaves
of Grass,remarkably so at a time when much of the public had yet to accept the work.
The last version of Leaves of Grass, called the Death Bed Edition, was published in 1891.
By the time this last edition was completed, Leaves of Grass had grown from a small book
of 12 poems to a hefty tome of almost 400 poems. As the volume changed, so did the
pictures of Whitman used to illustrate them — the last edition depicts an older Whitman
with a full beard and jacket, appearing more sophisticated and wise."
It goes on.This goes on eBay here and wanted to find out who did the artwork
on cover of somewhat tattered box.Pic should show condition of box.It's aged and worn
but more of it looks very nice and well preserved.As is condition.I'll do my best to
explain condition best fits this nice set of works.Walt Whitman.Wow.His poems are
so Americana.I love Americana.America in this era at a time before the Civil War
and time baseball or "base" as it was called back then played on those grassy strips
of land around Manhattan.Whitman lived in New York then.Born on Long Island, 1819.
To return to the box's condition.The sides on boxes top are split up to the top on all
four corners.There's some moderate wear on some edges-surface of top showing
great color but also showing some light scratches.It's in good to very good condition.
Way more on very good side.You can see it and the records in the sleeves.
Says : "and a complete book containing an illus. ed. of text Leaves of Grass with
an intro by Walter Lowenfels." The book is not there.No book.Sorry. Wish were there.
As I found it.All records there and barely played and each on very well protected.
They were babied.Thanks for reading-too much info?I figure so much to explore.
Like to find out more about something interesting.I have not played these records and
better leave 'em as they sit.Not add to handling.Box itself measures 12 1/2 x 12 1/2
