Karen & Richard Carpenter were so meticulous and intricate with their vocal harmonies, they have to be compared in that regard with The Beatles, Beach Boys and very few others. Their rich, luscious vocal tracks were achieved through recording each of their vocal parts on each song multiple times and then stacking those together. When you thought you were hearing 3 or 4 voices, you were actually hearing 20 to 30 voices on top of each other. With this technique, great songs and great lush orchestral arrangements they achieved phenomenal success!
