CONDITION

VINYL: Glorious / shiny throughout and appears unplayed …and probably was until I gave it a test spin ….as close to Mint as you will ever see and an absolute gem.

GATE-FOLD SLEEVE : superb / no ring-wear / no writing or splits and the spine is intact / has been stored in a protector sleeve since day one and is impossible to fault / AS NEW

DESCRIPTION

A magnificent UK issue which incorporates the 1st and 3rd albums from 70’s hard rock / prog outfit Uriah Heep.

The inside covers show the original sleeve designs and I liken this release to the “Two For One” re-issues that surfaced here in OZ during the 80’s, however there were only 10 different artists featured in the complete “That’s Original” set which came out of the UK….some others being Motorhead, T Rex and Gary Moore.
This Limited Edition set certainly doesn't turn up that often let alone in pristine condition as we have here.

An exceptionally clean collectors item for 70’s rock fans.

HISTORY

"Very 'eavy ... very 'umble" is England's based hard rock and early heavy metal band Uriah Heep debut album. The band which started as Spice in 1967 changed its name in 1969 prior to its release and the reviews that followed were terrible with almost every major publication saying that it was at best mediocre, or too heavy and cacophonyc (is that a bad thing anyway ). One negative review even came from the "Rolling Stone" magazine, where a critic started his "impressions" upon the album like: "If this group makes it I will have to commit suicide", and they indeed made it, releasing a load of awesome top-selling albums and are still active 38 years on …just goes to show you doesn’t it … betcha he's feeling very 'umble himself right about now the idiot...

"Very 'eavy ... very 'umble" …..The musical offering is quite diverse from the shear intensity of "Gypsy" to the ballad "Come away Melinda", to jazz rock "Wake up (set your sights) to traditional blues rock "Lucy Blues", you can hear a mixture of all the ingredients of the music rock music from the era, Uriah Heep can be labeled as a cross-over band of the era, or more fairly progressive rock, even tough the traces of that genre not being too evident here apart from a couple of songs.
Ken Hensley, who was to become the band leader and principal songwriter on future albums, played on this album but he didn't write any of the material which explains why their ensuing efforts were indeed much stronger.

"Look At Yourself" …..Gaze into the mirror and be drawn deep into Heep's venerable world, where cauldrons swirling with gnarled organ and strangled guitar tones bubble and ooze, as Byron's hair-raising screams pierce a cruel night. Look At Yourself pounds 'em out with howling intensity from the explosive title track through the bottleneck brutality of "Love Machine," swaggering "Tears In My Eyes," and thunderous stomp of "I Wanna Be Free." Elsewhere, the cavernous "July Morning" and wrath-rockin' "Shadows of Grief" are massive slabs of fully realized wickedness, while the finger-waving "What Should Be Done" provides brief respite from the fury. On Look At Yourself, Uriah Heep are a double threat, unafraid to dig in and explore odd angles of a song, while retaining a basic impulse to eventually beat those tunes into a bruised and bloody pulp. A proto-metal killer.
