(LEVIATHAN ) by (LEVIATHAN )...... ....(A FAN SAYS: I remember this l.p. from 1974 on underground fm radio. In those days my friends and I thought they sounded a bit like Humble Pie, with a dash of Trapeze and early Uriah Heep. For fans of early seventies hard rock with a slightly progressive twist this album will have definite appeal; but the reason I bought it on c.d. was mostly of nostalgic curiousity. Interestingly, the original l.p. was on Mach Records distributed by London, and the l.p. was recorded in Memphis for Hi Recording Corp! Yes, that's Al Green and Willie Mitchell's ground zero. As a Memphian, I wish I knew a little more about Leviathan. At that particular time in the city we were really into the Who, Big Star, the Stones, and Bowie (all still favorites). Stax and Hi were still churning out soul classics but business problems would soon overtake them. The music of progressive type bands like Leviathan was becoming passe' very quickly, but the perspective of thirty two years might have made me unduly critical; this LP. is better than I expected it to be. It is well worth picking up SL IS VG++ DISC IS VG+++ TO M- HAS ORIGINAL INNER SLEEVE WITH LYRICS--OBSCURE ).......
