(....NOVA 1......) by ( NOVA LOCAL )...... ....( HERE'S AN OVER THE TOP REVIEW BY A FAN:$5 Ticket" is fucking punk with a killer intro, some punchy accents and it's psychedelic in it's construction both vocally and with the screaming guitars. AMG says they broke up in April of 1967, which, chronologically, would make this a big player, especially wherever "North Dakota" is (is that a part of Canada?). "If You Only Had The Time." A more Folk-Rock approach, but I can tell I'm gonna like this album a whole lot. Very confident shit, they sound great. Harmonies are awesome. Great lyrics, an original? I don't know, great song regardless. "Yascha Knew Deli Intimately." Quick Psych tape manipulation which will fit in very nicely the next time I do acid...if I ever do acid again (so sad, I'm so old). "A Visit From It, The King." A minute-plus ditty of distinction, mainly because of the background harmonies, which are subtle only in pitch. They say "groovy" too. It's a cute little song which is all the better because they kept it short. Good move, Boys!! "Tobacco Road." At 6:48, this is a real test, and the side 1 closer. Starts beautifully mellow for 2 verses, then takes a killer organ lead into a heavier take. Oh my, they now transition into an amazing rhythm change before the chorus and keep getting heavier. This is something to hear folks, truly an inspired version of this classic. So far, I like what I'm hearing a whole fucking lot. This may be a "lost classic" ala Aorta or Boston Tea Party. "Hitch Hike." Starts like side 1 with a nice studio effect intro. These dudes have their shit together, please don't doubt me. This is 1st rate shit. This tune is heavy, very nuanced and incredibly well constructed. "Morning Dew." If they do half of what they did with "Tobacco Road," we're in for a treat. Motherfucker!!! They kick this tune's ass. They are not just a hard rocking psych band, they really think out their arrangements and pull off some complicated shit with total cohesion and confidence. "Forgotten Man." Great title, great intro, do we have an orchestra here?, or is it a mellotron. Who cares? It sounds killer to me. This must be an original, it's a beautiful song with great harmonies and some sitar to boot! (or was that the VOXX wah-wah?) "Dear Jimi." Wonder what this song's about? Hmmmm, backward guitars...killer, it's just another 30 seconds of psychedelic sounds to trip us out. "And I Remember." Heavy blues...I have no doubt they pull it off. The singer also plays guitar, according to this website, which makes perfect sense. They rock this. "John Knight's Body." A more poppier side than we've heard in a while. Very well done, no surprise there. Again, very well written and performed. " Games (bonus non lp 45)." A folk rock number, reminded me right away of Circus Maximus, a great LA psych band that put out 2 killers you should get if you haven't already. A 5?, you say. Absolutely, this is what 5's are all about. From North Dakota, they probably only played within a couple hundred mile radius from their favorite Chapel Hill hot spots, but they are a serious collection of rock and roll ass-kickers who, it sounds like to me, ingested the proper chemicals.
