Description
LEEDON: LS-577,
RICHARD 'POPCORN' WYLIE
This was the original 2 cut single that was only released on the Australian Leedon label in 1959.
It has been written and talked about that Richard 'Popcorn' Wylie composed and recorded these 2 tracks for Berry Gordy at a studio in Detroit in order to test the labels recording set up. Thereafter, Lee Gordon somehow got a copy of the test recording and brought it back to Australia to release on his Leedon label in 1959. The 2 tracks only received air play through DJ's in the US to gauge opinion, but the record was never released to the American public.
There is some opinion that the Leedon 45 was actually the first Motown Label 45 though it never was allocated a catalog number.
SIDE 1: RUMBLE SIDE 2: THE WOLF MAN
MATRIX RUNOUT NUMBERS: 1/ MX 3775 2/ MX 3776
Condition: Record plays loud and strong on both sides with no skips. There is some background crackle and pops, but it does not overpower the recordings and is more noticeable mainly in the intros and quieter sections.
