LULA CORTES – Rosa de Sangue. TIME-LAG 041-LP. NEW UNPLAYED VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Originally issued in 1980. This deluxe reissue edition issued in 2009 and now out of print. Pressed on 180g vinyl. Includes a full color fold-open reproduction of the original insert along with a second insert of liner notes by Cortes for this edition; also replicates the original cover and label art. TRACKS:  Lua Viva, Balada Da Calma, Casaco De Pedras, Nordeste Oriental, Bahjan, Sao Varias As Trilhas, Noite Preta, Dos Inimigos, A Pisada E Essa, and Rosa De Sangue. DESCRIPTION:  Deluxe reissue of this Brazilian private press monster rarity, the closing chapter of the amazing Recife psychedelic movement that flourished briefly in the Brazilian sun, centered around the singular talents of Lula Cortes. The Recife story began in 1973 with the creation of Abracadabra, Lula’s loose art/music/design collective. By the time of Rosa, Lula had produced and privately released Satwa, as well as Marconi Notaro’s No Sub Reino Dos Metazoarios LP (both in 1973). Cortes then started the legendary but incredibly short lived Solar label, releasing only two albums: 1975’s Paebiru double album under his own name, and a year later the lone album by Flaviola eo Bando Sol. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also heavily involved in other productions, and performed on seminal albums coming out of the region, including collaborations with Alceu Valença. By the end of the 1970’s, the Rozemblit recording studio/pressing plant had been destroyed by repeated floods, Abracadabra had run its course, and along with Lula’s marriage, the Solar label was no more. So, Rosa de Sangue was conceived as a final tribute to the dying era. As Lula himself said, “I want to close all of this with a golden key”. Entering a small local studio with a head full of songs and his freshly road tested “mountains band,” Lula created an album overflowing with ideas. Along with the backing of his power trio, he was assisted by old friends, including Alceu Valença, Flaviola, Ze Ramalho de Flauta, and Paulo Rafael. With hints of the past era and also of things to come, it is a truly wild audio experience, covering many styles and moods, from crazed ethno folk-rock, to magical, gentle, jungle folk/psych zones, to hard hitting, coke dusted fuzz rock, to insane mutant disco dance floor groove, to acid vocal raga trance, and way beyond. While the album was being recorded, Lula signed a major label contract; when his new label got wind of Rosa de Sangue, they were displeased, to say the least. As soon as the pressing was complete, the entire small edition was seized and destroyed, making this album by far Brazil’s rarest—so rare, in fact, that even among the most hardcore Brazilian collector’s the original LP is often only rumored to exist, often cited as unreleased. This edition comes packaged in a heavy vintage style cover with exact reproduction of the original artwork, including the huge full color, double sided, foldopen poster insert, plus an extra insert featuring new liner notes from Lula Cortes, as well as translated song titles; 180 gram audiophile virgin vinyl pressing; limited edition one time pressing of 1,000 copies.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

RETURN POLICY:

Please e-mail me with specific details and I will get back to you with your options. I ask that if there is a problem with the item that you contact me as soon as possible after receiving it. Any item that must be returned is done so at the buyer’s expense. Any refund, exchange, or substitution/credit will be at the buyer’s choice, but not made until the original item is received back by me; in the condition as stated in the item description. 

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

US Customers:  Please wait at least two weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. All packages are shipped with confirmation/tracking, you will received an automatically generated shipping notice from Ebay e-mail with your tracking number. It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

INTERNATIONAL Customers:  Please wait at least 3 weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. If security is your concern please have your package registered (see above for fee). I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal system it is beyond my control. With First-Class Package International Service my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country. NOTE:  Based on recent buyer feedback, International packages have been moving much slower these days; it is not unusual for a package to take over three weeks for delivery, though normally packages should arrive in 7 to 15 business days.
