US pioneers Lycia are real dark wave and gothic heroes. Ionia was their first ever studio album and to mark its 30th anniversary it gets a full reissue here, and it sounds as good as it ever did. It was an album that kick started a scene but despite that was out of print until 2011 when a CD version was put out. The tracks are dense, with layers of gauzy guitar textures, fuzzy feedback and sleazy noise obscuring the tortured vocals. Some tracks explore a more ethereal vibe like 'Fate' while moments of pure intensity like 'This Moment' are real highlights.
