David LYME

Hits Vol 1

Blanco Y Negro Spain

12" Cat: INDX 117
Rel: 30 Mar 26
Disco/Nu Disco/Re-Edits Side 1 - Track 1. Bambina Side 1 - Track 2. Let's Go To Sitges Side 2 - Track 1. Playboy Side 2 - Track 2. Dolce Vita

In classic European synth-pop/80s disco style, David Lyme was not in fact an American or British singer, but rather a Spanish singer whose decision to adopt an anglicised moniker was meant to add an extra layer of authenticity. Hits Volume 1, a retrospective EP, gathers together a quartet of his mid 1980s European chart hits. The sound will be familiar to those with a working knowledge of synth-pop of the period and its obvious club roots - think Bobby Orlando Hi-NRG productions, Latin freestyle, Italo-disco and the emerging Italo-dance style, with a big dose of Fairlight-fired studio trickery thrown in. All four tracks are fun infectious and ear-catching, though our picks of a strong bunch are opener 'Bambina' and the more thickset, spaced-out 'Dolce Vita'.
