Description
This is an ORIGINAL 1977 EARLY ISSUE MCA RECORDS U.S. LP WITH ORIGINAL 'FLAMES COVER' titled 'Street Survivors' from the popular Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. It is MCA Records U.S. catalog number MCA-3029, gatefold cover with front cover photo showing the band standing in the middle of a street surrounded by building in flames.
After the band was involved in an October 1977 plane crash which took the lives of six people the original 'flames cover' was considered to be in bad taste, and the album was recalled by MCA with the front cover photo being replaced with a photo of the band standing in front of a solid black background. The 'TOTS' insert included with this early copy of the LP adds to the mystique of the original issue of the album, as it bears a listing of all of the scheduled gigs on the ill-fated tour that was aborted by the plane crash after the first three dates.
Overall condition of this album is about a low to mid VG+ -- Record is a mid VG+ with some surface marks on both sides, none of which can be felt or will affect play. Condition of gatefold cover is also a low to mid VG+ with some ring and contact wear and some wear along the edges and on the corners. 'TOTS' insert is in good shape with just a few slight wrinkles.
This original early press 'Street Survivors' album with its 'flame cover' is a legendary conversation piece and is surrounded by a scary mystique due to its spooky front cover photo that seemingly foretold the future of the band and by its 'TOTS' insert. It is a sought after item that would make a choice addition to any Lynyrd Skynyrd, southern rock, or classic rock record collection!
