From the archives of a noted Australian rock’n’roll and entertainment historian comes this great piece of Aussie rock history. La De Das. The Happy Prince. Australian pressing. 1969. Columbia EMI. Stereo SCXO 7899. No lyric sheet. Record in Good Plus condition, some notable scratches across Side 1 and a few on Side 2. Side 1 is the worst and appear deep but I’ve played the LP through and, aside from a few pops in the run-ins and quieter passages, there’s remarkably little evidence of these scratches. However, I haven’t graded it any higher owing to its appearance, not to how it plays. Overall, the record plays really well, it’s a sturdy pressing with almost no extraneous noise. (NOTE: test played on my rather hefty 70s turntable, a Linear Design GST 1, which tends to behave on even the nastiest vinyl. There‘s no guarantee that this record won’t sound worse on prissy modern turntables.) The cover is in Good condition with significant ring wear, chipping along edges and spine, slight splitting, and minor discolouration. Compared with some of the 1970s Aussie rock pressings out there, the sound quality on this is verging on Japanese audio standards.
