Description
Up for your consideration is the highly sought after ORIGINAL 1987 5 LP Stereo Box Set of La Monte Young - The Well Tuned Piano 81 X 25 on Gramavision.
In many circles, this experimental, avant garde, and minimalist lp, is the HOLY GRAIL.
Vinyl Condition :
All 5 records look as if they have never been played. All 5 records are NM+ / M-, Side 2 of disc 1 has the only visual flaw that is noticeable. On Side 2, there is a small area that has the lightest whispy NON FEELER scuff (see last pic...it was very difficult for me to get a clear photo of this scuff). This is one of those scuffs that literally disapears when your not looking at it at the proper angle......I truly mean that.....it disapears when you view it at different angles.....it is a very very light non feeler. A portion of the scuff is in the dead wax. This "scuff", has no affect on the playability or listening experience whatsoever. All 5 vinyls have their original white paper sleeves (see pic). The labels on the discs look MINT.
Booklet Condition :
The front and back cover have some very light wear. The inside pages look EXCELLENT with no staining.
The Box :
The top half of the box (the lid) has two corner splits at the top and soft corners at the bottom. The bottom half of the box has one corner split at the bottom left corner. The inside of both halves has NO staining and looks fine. The overall condition of the box has some wear with NO stains. I would say condition is conservatively VG-.
Overall, being that there is only a piano on this album with many quiet passages, this 5 record set is one of those albums that needs to be listened in its entirety where the vinyl needs to be in the best listening condition possible for the most accurate listening experience. This 5 record original set is extremely difficult to come by, let alone in NEARLY MINT CONDITION such as this set.
The box is a little ruff, but very far from terrible. The booklet is included. The front and back cover of the booklet is in VG+ condition while the inner pages are EXCELLENT. The vinyl is in NEAR MINT / MINT -condition. There are no other marks / hairlines other than what I have mentioned that is on Side 2 of disc 1, which has NO affect on playability or sound / listening experience.
This album was played on a Dual 1019 turnatable to confirm playability.
