Description
Original and very highly prized recording released in 1973 on the French Shadar label.
There were conditions placed on Shandar by Young. These conditions were that the duration of his music must remain in tact ,without fade out, or editing of any kind.
The track on side one, Dream House 78' 17" clocks in at just under 40 minutes!!! The label had to search for a pressing plant that agreed, and were confident it could even be done...
A record side of this length had never been attempted before. Nobody really knew if it was even possible....
Ultimately it was a success as we have the evidence before us.
This music represents the core of the 1960's New York underground scene that spawned artists such as: Tony Conrad, Terry Riley, Angus Maclise, and of course John Cale, who went on to form the Velvet Underground with Lou Reed...
This music was at the core of what would later become part of the inspiration behind the Velvet Underground's DRONE sounds, via Cale's experiences, and time spent playing with Young.
La Monte Young's collective of musicians were known as, The Dream Syndicate, which were notorious for holding all night performance of minimalistic drone music. It is quite challenging to not variate when you're playing an instrument live, the temptation to variate can be overwhelming, and it was STRICTLY forbidden and remains very avant guard to this day. The Dream Syndicate's sound would later develop into what would be called the Fluxus movement.
